  • Safer Gambling Week in the UK took place from November 13-19
  • The initiative received record social media interactions and website visits this year
  • The BGC says the industry’s commitment to safer gambling will continue every week of the year

The 2023 Safer Gambling Week has been a huge success, with the campaign receiving record coverage across social media platforms.

The annual event, held from November 13 to 19 this year, recorded over 50 million interactions on social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram, an increase of 70% from 2022.

2023 Safer Gambling Week – Massive Success

Safer Gambling Week is organized by the Betting & Gaming Council (BGC), BACTA, and the Bingo Association. Now in its seventh year, the cross-industry initiative aims to promote safer gambling in the UK and Ireland.

Throughout the week, the gambling sector gets involved in various activities, including holding forums and discussions, as well as increasing the visibility of safer gambling messages to highlight the importance of gambling safely.

According to the BGC, the initiative achieved a new milestone this year after it received over 50 million impressions on social media, a 70% rise from last year’s campaign which recorded 30 million interactions.

Additionally, the Safer Gambling Week website was visited half a million times during the week – another record high – with the campaign also receiving much-needed backing from senior MPs and the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).

This year’s Safer Gambling Week was further boosted by the support of UK football clubs, including Southampton, Brighton, Middlesbrough, Blackpool, and West Ham United.

This only indicates that the initiative continues to be successful in its goal of raising awareness about safer gambling practices and the tools and resources available to help players keep their gambling at bay.

BGC Reiterates Industry’s Commitment to Safer Gambling

BGC Chief Executive Michael Dugher hailed the record numbers as a fresh achievement for the campaign which will result in increased use of safer gambling tools, such as deposit limits. Furthermore, the initiative also helps encourage customers to stay away from illegal platforms as safer gambling tools are only available on licensed real money sites.

Dugher said the success of Safer Gambling Week reflects the industry’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and responsible environment for millions of UK consumers. That commitment will go on for the entire year, not just for one week, he added.

The 2023 Safer Gambling Week has already concluded but customers are encouraged to continue to use safer gambling tools all year round.
