Summary:
- The “Tell us” service allows users to anonymously report gambling-related crimes online
- The new service can be used to upload supporting information, including documents and photos
- The UKGC launched the new service as it continues its White Paper consultations
UK gamblers may now anonymously report suspicious activities related to gambling via an online service as part of a new initiative spearheaded by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
The Commission’s website now has a dedicated “Tell us something in confidence” segment allowing users to provide information concerning criminal activity under the Gambling Act 2005.
Crime Reporting Made Easier via “Tell us” Service
Launched this week, the new online confidential reporting service serves as a one-stop service for those who want to report gambling-related criminal activities, including underage gambling, money laundering, match-fixing and sports betting integrity, unlicensed gambling and other shady practices within the sector. The online service may also be used to provide any other information that could be of help to the UKGC from a regulatory standpoint.
Users can upload supporting information, such as documents and photographs, and may also provide further details regarding their report through email or post. They may also share contact information if they wish to be contacted about their report.
The UKGC notes that the new service is primarily intended for signposting criminal and suspicious activity linked to gambling. Those who want to file a complaint against a gambling provider are advised to visit the “How to complain” section of the Commission’s website where they can learn about the complaints process.
The Commission has also reminded users not to use the “Tell us” service to report crimes not related to gambling. For such concerns, people are advised to contact 101 or 999.
People may still anonymously report any criminal or suspicious activity linked to gambling via the UKGC’s existing confidential telephone service. It will continue to operate as usual, according to the Commission.
The launch of the “Tell us” online reporting service comes as the UKGC continues its White Paper-related work. The Commission has been conducting consultations on key measures set out in the White Paper to determine the best approach to implementing the proposals. The agency opened its first set of consultations in July with financial checks among the subjects tackled.
UKGC Launches Second Phase of White Paper Consultations
Launched in late November, the second phase of the consultation process focuses on regulatory data, player incentives, customer-led tools, removal of certain LCCP requirements linked to RET funding, and transparency of protection of customer funds.
